Basic Keelboat BKB (ASA 101): This is a four-day introductory sailing course. No prior boating experience or navigation skills are required. Over the 32 hours of this class, each student will learn to sail a 22-foot Capri in light to moderate wind and sea conditions on the San Joaquin River. Classes are small with a maximum of 4 students per boat with one instructor, allowing for plenty of experience learning to pilot the boat both as skipper and as crew. Classroom instruction makes up about 6 hours of this course. It is recommended that students read the text prior to starting the class in order to be as prepared as possible. A written test and a practical on-the-water test are given at the end of the class. With successful completion of the tests, the student will receive Basic Keelboat ASA certification.
